PowerGenix, the developer of high-performance, automotive Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) batteries, has entered into an innovation contract with PSA Peugeot Citroën Automobiles under which PSA will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the use of PowerGenix’s NiZn batteries as a replacement for lead-acid in stop-start vehicles.

A question about bidirectional charging was also asked. Elon Musk noted that bidirectional charging is not that useful since Powerwall is better. The service’s rollout in Texas will include $30 charging at night for customers who sign up for Tesla Electric. He estimates 10 models or so should be enough.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. It will appear in Europe next year as the Opel Ampera and in Australia as the Holden Volt in 2012. The car is expected to cost around $40,000. Thats right.
