While EPA results are not yet certified, Ford anticipates no sacrifice in overall fuel efficiency. An active wastegate controls boost more precisely during light load operation to help save fuel. Ford Explorer is built in North America at Chicago Assembly Plant, as well as in Venezuela and now, Russia.

The NETL study serves as a key input for analyses conducted by EPA and DOE. For pipeline transport, bitumen is diluted to reduce its viscosity by mixing it with a diluent, a light hydrocarbon liquid such as natural gas condensate or refinery naphtha. The top four suppliers were Mexico, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
