I never thought I’d see the New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl and I never thought Las Vegas would get a hockey team, let alone one that won a Stanley Cup just six seasons in. Fuel economy is listed at 52 mpg across the board for city/highway/combined. mpg -- and the computer wasn't reset when I picked up the car.

Toyota fully unveiled its fourth-generation Prius in an outdoor event Tuesday night in Las Vegas. Toyota did not provide specifics of fuel consumption and electric range, but confirmed that it expected a 10% improvement in EPA-estimated MPG on core models (51 mpg city, 48 mpg highway, 50 mpg combined for MY 2015).

While it has unveiled the all-new 2016 Prius hybrid twice--once at a glitzy event in Las Vegas, once at the Frankfurt Motor Show--Toyota has been very stingy with technical information about the powertrain that will let the car earn promised EPA combined ratings of 55 mpg or better.

Extensive changes to the transaxle, engine and combined hybrid system, generate an expected improvement in EPA estimated MPG on core models of up to 10% (i.e., up to ~55 mpg US combined), with an Eco model that will achieve an even greater improvement. The new Prius will arrive in dealerships in the US early next year.
