For the standard version, Tesla plans to use a battery that can recharge at a typical 220V outlet in about four hours. “Buyers of the Model S can play it safe (and have more flexibility in terms of where they can charge the car) by using the standard 120V outlet, but the charging will take longer.&# I’m depressed.

Standardization of battery shape and chemistry is another consideration that gives one pause. Also, until standardization of connectors becomes fully implemented, EV owners may have to carry an assortment of adapters to be able to plug in to chargers from different suppliers. One of the main drawbacks to charge stations is speed.
