BYD has also begun selling a plug-in electric car with a backup gasoline engine, a move putting it ahead of GM, Nissan, and Toyota. Deploying the armies of laborers at BYD is an officer corps of managers and engineers who invent and design the products. Wang says the engineers come from Chinas best schools.
