Eaton Corporation has selected A123 Systems to supply battery systems for production of a hybrid power system to be installed on a Ford F550-based Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). A123 Systems has been developing the battery system for much of 2010 with Eaton. Earlier post.).

The converted hybrids were developed with Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Eaton Corporation, which provided the hybrid-electric systems ( earlier post ). ISB EPA 07 200-hp (149 kW) EGR diesel engine and Eaton hybrid-electric system, with Li-ion batteries for energy storage.

The hybrid conversions took place in Charlotte, North Carolina over the last six months and were developed with Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Eaton Corporation. The aim of the conversion programme is not only to reduce pollution but also to extend the life of the vehicles, helping to eliminate waste production.
