Safety systems in plug-in hybrid and electric cars automatically shut the power off and isolate the battery when a collision or short circuit is detected, lowering the likelihood of a fire. Plug-in and fully electric cars operate between 200 and 800 volts. EV electrical circuits are just as safe as diesel and petrol cars.
