Even though the range is less than I expected, I am really enjoying showing the conversion to people and their shock when I open the rear deck to expose the engine conpartment.

At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. Today youd do it to be one of the first to drive the worlds cleanest extended range vehicle; in the future, youll do it because its an obvious and affordable win!

Also ferrying guests about a short circuit (so to speak) was a smart fortwo imbued with a Tesla-engineered drivetrain, fruit of its effort to supply Daimler with battery packs for 1,000 smart eds. Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait.

The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements. The extended-range version will be focused on retail customers.

The three leading new options to re-supply our autos with energy are charging at home, battery swap stations and fast charge stations. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. my idea is that it would work the way propane tanks work now.
