Linde has contracted with Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) in California to supply the ionic compression hydrogen fueling technology ( earlier post ) and the hydrogen for two new refueling stations, which will be located at AC Transit's Emeryville and Oakland operating divisions.

AC Transit will construct a new hydrogen bus fueling station in Oakland. The fueling station operation will avoid 700 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, displacing 100,000 gallons of diesel gallons equivalent annually. LNG fuel reduces greenhouse gas emission by approximately 15% compared to diesel.

Fueling with highly compressed hydrogen (700 bar) is a little more complicated than uncompressed diesel or high-powered DC chargers. FCEVs are still more efficient than diesel vehicles when run on hydrogen made from methane, but not as efficient as battery EVs charged from methane-generated electricity.
