Germany, Italy and Denmark already have a significant number of hydrogen refueling stations although some of them are not publicly accessible.

The current trial is part of a program run by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Better Place is building stations in San Francisco, Hawaii, Israel, and Denmark to swap out 1,000 pound batteries in a car wash type set up. The electricity for recharging has to come from somewhere, which means power plants. Depending upon where you live, power plants are often burning natural resources.
