Ford has said it will restart construction on the electric vehicle battery facility it’s building in Marshall, Michigan, after pausing work when the UAW strike kicked off a couple months ago. As stated previously, we have been evaluating BlueOval Battery Park Michigan in Marshall.

After facing significant challenges ramping up production and meeting customer demand for the F-150 Lightning, Ford recently announced layoffs that will drastically cut volume at its electric vehicle factory in Michigan. Even with tax credits for some models, many EVs are significantly more expensive than their gas-powered counterparts.

These big price reductions, $5,900 for the Bolt EV and $6,300 for Bolt EUV, makes them more competitive as Chevrolet no longer qualifies for the federal $7,500 tax credit. In 2023 Chevrolet is launching the all-new, all-electric Equinox and Blazer models, which need to have a price differential from the Bolt models.

As of June 15, 2022, Ford will no longer offer the opportunity to purchase its three all-electric vehicles, the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit Van, for new leases. Ford informed dealers in a letter that it was discontinuing the end-of-lease purchase option for the E-Transit van, Mustang Mach-E, and F-150 Lightning.

This goes hand in hand with the creation of 143,000 new U.S. According to an analysis from Environmental Defense Fund, states like Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, and North and South Carolina are big winners in manufacturing investment.

Ford began production of the 2013 C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid vehicle ( earlier post ) at Michigan Assembly in October, and the vehicles are heading for showrooms. Ford has tripled to more than 200 the number of dealers certified to sell its lineup of plug-in electrified vehicles, including the C-MAX Energi that is on sale now.
