In addition to each being equipped with two Level-2 chargers (40 total in the PNW region), 10 of the dealers will also be up-fitted with 50kW Signet FC50K-CC-S DC fast chargers, increasing Kia’s overall network of fast-charging stations. The Soul EV plugs into any standard 120v outlet or a conventional 240v EV charger.

It will be the first vehicle on the market to use the recently approved SAE combo charger for DC Fast Charging (J1772). Also, its liquid cooled battery pack, developed with tailored A123 Systems Li-ion iron phosphate cells and GM controls, can handle multiple DC fast charges daily without impact on battery life.

When the vehicle’s ECU detects that a Level 3 DC quick charging connector has been plugged into the vehicle, it then determines whether the battery pack requires cooling based on battery temperature information from the BMU (Battery Management Unit).
