Photo: Hawaii Department of Transportation Hawaii’s first National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program EV charging station just came online on Maui. The Aloha State follows Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania in opening its NEVI-funded DC fast charging station to the public. Charging is free until March 10.

Below is a table showing the “best” and “worst” five states when calculating the ratio of BEVs in operation to DC fast charging (DCFC) ports. In these states, the number of deployed DC fast chargers has simply outpaced BEV sales. California, of course, has by far the most EVs on the road and the highest number of DC fast chargers.

The project is supported by Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), in cooperation with the State of Hawaii, Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc., They will demonstrate their effectiveness at controlling EV chargers so they do not overload distribution facilities.

Canada-based Rapid Electric Vehicles (REV) has begun production of four converted electric bi-directional charging Ancillary Power Vehicles (APVs) ( earlier post ) as part of the US Army Tank Automotive Research Development Engineering Center (TARDEC) Micro-Grid project at Wheeler Air Base, Hawaii.
