The first wave of F-150 production-ready prototype extended range electric vehicles is soon due to be delivered to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to kick-off a pilot study in the PG&E fleet. Specs for the powertrain in the F-150 include a 2.0L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine powering an 82 kW (peak) Remy DC generator.

No less an auto industry titan as Ford has also made bidirectional charging a selling point of their F-150 Lightning electric truck, reportedly slated to roll off the lines this year. In case of power outage at home, the DC pins in the charger can send juice back into the house, keeping the lights on.

Ford's F-150 is Now Available. Ford's F-150 Lightning Truck goes on sale this week, and the automaker just launched the online configurator for F-150 for customers who are interested in the vehicle. Power Kit Adds 30% More Range. EV sales are expected to surpass ICE vehicle sales by 2025.

This is a contrast to most other EV makers – Hyundai and Kia have V2L on their vehicles, but only up to 1.8kW; Ford has its Intelligent Backup Power system , but only on the F-150 Lightning; Tesla has Powershare , but only on Cybertruck; Rivian wants to get around to offering bidirectional charging , but isn’t there yet – and so on.

If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success.
