GM is set to deliver its 2011 Chevrolet Volt to its first batch of owners, but it's just booked a big order sure to keep the extended-range electric car in short supply for the near future. Corporate giant GE said today it would purchase 25,000 electric cars over the next five years.

General Motors is working with communities such as San Francisco to develop a plan of action to establish the supporting technical and policy infrastructure required for broad commercialization of plug-in electric vehicles such as the upcoming Chevrolet Volt. After months of speculation about its future, General Motors Corporation has reached agreements with the US Treasury and the governments of Canada and Ontario for the creation of a new smaller and self-sustaining GM. The New GM is expected to launch in 60-90 days as a separate and independent company from the existing General Motors.
