The Swiss battery system manufacturer ecovolta has developed a standardized Li-ion traction battery which can significantly reduce the time and expense needed to bring electric vehicles to the serial production stage. To reach the de facto standard of 48 V nominal (the actual voltage can go up to near 58 V, depending on battery chemistry) you can either wire four 12 V batteries in series, or the appropriate number of bare cells (typically 16 for LFP).

Out in the desert as part of Burning Man , our encampment, Snow Koan Solar, is setting up a solar photovoltaic EV Charging Station (at 7:30 and Desert) for electric scooters, golf carts, sofas and barstools. The plug-in Priuses are almost doubling the fuel efficiency of Google standard Prius fleet, getting 74 MPG rather than 41 MPG.

Think has even shown a convertible prototype. The Chevy Volt is going to count on an overnight charge from a standard wall outlet. They are either glorified golf cart city cars like this one or they are only for the very wealthy like the Tesla. Massive government subsidies are upending commercial considerations.

April 10, 2009 10:06 pm Link I make, convert and drive EV’s and have for 13 yrs. And with EV maintenance you are less exposed to being ripped off buy the ICE car repairman. — Jeff U 6.
