Oil sands comprise clay, sand, water, and bitumen. Synthetic crude oil, similar to conventional crude oil, is created by upgrading bitumen (conversion into lighter hydrocarbons). Dilbit is also processed to remove sand, water, and other impurities. The top four suppliers were Mexico, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
