Open Source Civic EV Kit

After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. All the commercially available freeway-capable (70 mph) EVs are priced way out of reach for the average consumer.

Road rallies were held in Juneau, Alaska , where local and state elected officials riding the city’s first electric bus led the way, and in Muskegon, Michigan , where 70 participants in 40 cars, motorcycles, and a golf cart, navigated a 150-mile circuit from Muskegon to Holland to Grand Rapids and back to Muskegon.

Joining Think, will be Tesla with its Roadster sports car. Tesla is the first to sell a full production electric car in the UK and is known for its hefty price tag too, retailing at a cool £94,000. It represents the first step in the manufacture of conversion kits that can be replicated in large numbers.
