Australian manufacturer Roev plans to do just that from 2023 by converting Toyota Hiluxes and Ford Rangers to electric, with conversions priced from $47,990. Roev will remove the ICE from Toyota Hiluxes and Ford Rangers and replace them with an electric motor and batteries. 2023 Roev electric Toyota HiLux.

At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. Conversions are limited to certain vehicle types.

Competition is going to force them to produce a comfortable, usable, extended range EV for that price, and I will just have to wait. The first one was the Zytek design you mentioned, but this is a 2nd "new and improved" design from Tesla, with more power, higher speed and greater range.

The head of Chryslers ENVI division, Lou Rhodes, told AutoblogGreen this morning that Chrysler is marketing this battery-only version of the van to commercial fleet customers who typically have shorter range requirements.
