If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. Yes GM will lose $ on the Volt, just like the first Insights or Priuss, but unlike Toyota or Honda, they just cant afford to wait for it to catch on and become profitable. The EV1s failure was a failure of Management.
