Nickel sulfate is the chemical compound used in the production of pre-cathode active materials for nickel-based lithium-ion batteries. The amount of contained nickel is sufficient to supply approximately 350,000 EVs annually. Deliveries are targeted to commence in the second half of 2026.

A recent preliminary road test of the Raser Hummer H3E, an H3 converted with a range-extended electric powertrain ( earlier post ), demonstrated more than 50 miles of all-electric range. Cobalt is an important metal in the production of EV batteries, and the cobalt processed from Australia will be used in GM’s Ultium battery cathodes, which will power electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC HUMMER EV and Cadillac LYRIQ. Cobalt is a metal that makes up only 0.001% of the earth’s crust.
