The 15 universities competing in EcoCAR 2 gathered in Yuma, Arizona last week for six days of vehicle testing and evaluation on drive quality and environmental impact at General Motors (GM) Desert Proving Ground. The Penn State University Advanced Vehicle Team (PSU AVT) designed a series plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) fueled with E85.

On 11 August, GM invited approximately 75 journalists and auto analysts to spend a day learning about the new GM. The day was split between a morning session at the GM tech center in Warren and an afternoon session at the GM proving grounds in Milford, MI. GM’s identify in the US starts with its four core brands.

Student engineers participating in EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge unveiled their vehicle architectures at the Washington Auto Show. Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV). The 17 designs range from systems using on-board hydrogen fuel cells to full battery-electric vehicles.

Afterward several members of Congress went outside for test drives in a plug-in hybrid brought to Washington by Cal-Cars.
