Flight Design GmbH will debut a hybrid engine concept for light aircraft at the upcoming Aero show in Friedrichshafen, Germany (2-5 April). Flight Design developed the concept engine over the past two years with Franz Aircraft Engines. Matthias Betsch, Flight Design CEO.

The H-engine—basically two separate engines housed within the same engine block—comprises two switchable parallel piston banks, independently fueled by gasoline and CNG. Startup Eco-Motive has developed what it calls the first dual-fuel “H” engine; it recently received a patent (# 8807098 ) on the design.

Numerous components from the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive ( earlier post ) have been integrated in the design of the “Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept” engineering design. Mercedes-AMG uses two drive units, each featuring six independent electric motors. Each electric motor delivers 138 kW and 250 N·m.

A collaboration between research teams at Shell and Gordon Murray Design (GMD) recently led to the development of an innovative concept engine lubricant capable of achieving a 6.5% 25 city car as the test bed, Shell engineers formulated an ultra low viscosity 0W-10 motor oil. benefit on a combined cycle.
