Scientist have confirmed that unlike gasoline cars, plug-ins will get cleaner as they get older -- because our power grid is getting cleaner. The comparison keeps being raised, though studies are conclusive: The "well-to-wheel" emissions of electric vehicles are lower than those from gasoline internal combustion vehicles.

This renewable production capacity is increasingly important to ensure the existing power grid can accept more renewable sources. So much so, Hyundai has announced it is leasing its hydrogen SUV for $499 a month, with fuel thrown in for free. Of course, this also has the merit of producing so-called “green hydrogen”.

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) estimates that the current power grid could handle many tens of millions of cars plugging in at off-peak hours before wed have any capacity issues [See EPRI article PDF ].
