Nissan unveiled the Frontier Sentinel, a concept pickup truck designed by Nissan Brazil’s styling studio, at the 2018 São Paulo Motor Show. The top part of the cargo bed has a deployable platform from which a drone can take off and land. The new Nissan LEAF is now available through a pre-sale program in Brazil, Chile and Colombia.

The City of Bogota, Colombia, has launched a pilot project to spur the use of electric vehicles in Bogota’s center-city taxi fleet. The transportation sector is the largest and fastest-growing source of urban CO 2 emissions in the Latin American region, as more people become dependent on motorized transport.

SEAT President Luca de Meo also announced at the company’s annual media conference that the CUPRA Formentor, the new CUV that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, will be built at the Martorell factory. The CUPRA Leon and the CUPRA Formentor will also have a plug-in hybrid variant. In 2018 SEAT obtained the best results in its history.

GM South America includes GM’s existing sales and manufacturing operations in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela as well as sales activities in those countries and Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

Balqon Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of zero emissions, heavy-duty electric vehicles and drive systems ( earlier post ), has received a $490,000 order for electric drive systems under a new dealer agreement with DynaProTech, a leading composite automotive parts manufacturer in the People’s Republic of China. Findings from the study: An estimated 4 million children developed asthma each year from 2010 to 2015 due to exposure to NO 2 pollution, which primarily comes motor vehicle exhaust. The researchers estimate that most children lived in areas below the current WHO guideline of 21 parts per billion for annual average NO 2.
