Considered by many to be the ultimate eco-car, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation finally unveiled the production version of the i-MiEV as part of World Environment Day in Tokyo. The company will then start sales of the i-MiEV to individuals starting in April 2010 with orders to be taken on the Mitsubishi website starting in late July.

The 10 cars up for contention for the 2009 Award included: the Citroen C1 ev’ie electric, Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric, Toyota iQ, Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, third-generation Toyota Prius hybrid, Volvo S40/V50 DRIVe start-stop, new Honda Insight hybrid, VW Passat BlueMotion 2, BMW 318d saloon, and the Citroen C3 Picasso compact-MPV.

Last week it began taking pre-bookings for the Peugeot i0n model ( see article ), which is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. It was a well thought out move by PSA Peugeot Citroen to sign an agreement with Mitsubishi to manufacture the vehicle in Europe after the i-MiEV enjoyed significant success on its launch in Japan this summer.
