It shares an all-new platform with the purely petrol Outlander version. litre combustion petrol engine allied with twin electric motors, a 20kWh lithium-ion battery pack and all-wheel-drive. For a plug-in hybrid it is, but those prices are some $15,000 more than the equivalent Outlander petrol versions. Is it good value?

LDV has announced the prices of its trio of new electric models – and they’re not cheap. . And the EV version gets less in the way of standard equipment. The battery pack underneath means there’s also no room for a spare tyre, with a repair kit in its place. All those prices are before on-road costs.

But whereas the EV6 is based on a dedicated EV architecture, the Niro relies on an ICE platform to allow for the petrol engine for the hybrid model. But even as a hybrid the Niro doesn’t come particularly cheap. But it’s spacious by compact SUV standards. The compact SUV sits under the EV6 from a pricing perspective.

None of this quartet is cheap, but all are towards the value end of the EV market. It’s a tempting offer, although the P2’s standard equipment list is skinnier. It’s an unbranded system designed in-house by Tesla, but it’s a quality bit of audio kit. At least some of those really should be standard. It’s all there….
