It looks like the first units for sale will be the $79,800 4WT trim -- these trucks are meant for fleet sales. Cheap EV trucks will likely be on the market someday. The $74,000 3WT trim is soon to follow, and AG speculates that the lower trims won't come in at less than $60K. Today, it appears, is not that day.

Speaking of home battery solutions, GM Energy also plans to sell one of those, though that unit won’t be for sale until later this year (same with solar integration, which will also come this year). That’s important, because the system isn’t cheap. Batteries will be available in 10, 17, and 35kWh packages.

EVs ain’t cheap Price is another EV purchase risk that is comparable to EV range. How long GM will be able to keep that price in the face of battery cost increases and inflationary pressure, is anyone’s guess. Buying a new car is the second most expensive purchase a consumer makes behind buying a house.

Last year Oregon had also aggressively negotiated with the Chinese carmaker, BYD , to manufacture its line of plug-in hybrids in the state for sale in the U.S.) Furthermore, changing the battery pack on say a Toyota Prius often costs a fortune, at least in most European countries, so such cars better be VERY cheap, but they’re not.
