Late last year, Volvo launched its very first all-electric model in North America. It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery. We can expect to hear much more about Volvo’s EV plans, and see a lot more fully electric models, over the next five years.

Due in the second quarter, the BYD Seal U is available globally as a plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) and a fully electric model. There will be single-motor front-drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive models available and a lengthy list of tech that includes remote connectivity and dual 12.3-inch BYD Seal U BYD Seal U.

The SUV’s reveal follows Volvo Car Australia’s announcement last week saying the brand will sell only fully electric cars here from 2026. They’re not going to be cheap. There’s built-in Google and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the dashboard and centre console are minimalism personified.
