We don’t know if the Ioniq 6 will introduce remote connectivity – allowing activating climate control or checking the charge status from your phone – as found in Teslas, for example. As soon as you hop in the Ioniq 6 you’re hit with the feeling of luxury, advanced tech and space. Generous, to say the least.

The vision is fuelled by the fear of climate change and the need to find green alternatives to dirty coal, unpopular nuclear power and unreliable gas imports from Russia. So, the used batteries are almost arbitrarily cheap since an arbitrarily large fraction of their cost of production can be loaded on their use in transportation.

Furthermore, changing the battery pack on say a Toyota Prius often costs a fortune, at least in most European countries, so such cars better be VERY cheap, but they’re not. None of the new electric cars are planning to use old-tech lead acid batteries. Current batteries in new Toyota hybridsare ~$3000 if they need to be replaced.

Yes, it’s kind of funny looking, but as it’s a Benz the cabin is luxurious and full of tech, while the drive is impressively smooth. Not cheap, but there still feels like decent value here. Service intervals are annual or every 25,000km, and aren’t cheap for an EV. Tech goodies include twin 12.3-inch

A mid-spec EV9 Earth is around $120,000 in the traffic, while the entry-level Air is a comparatively cheap $107,000. The Air’s standard kit’s hardly wanting. inch screens in a panoramic display, tri zone climate control, connected services and a V2L socket in the boot. The sooner this tech gets sidelined the better.
