European Li-ion automotive battery supplier Axeon has been awarded research funding from the EU to reduce the weight, volume and cost of batteries in electric and hybrid vehicles as part of a €3.32-million million (US$4.72-million) million) consortium program called SmartBatt. Reduction in battery pack cost by 5%-10%.

At BMW Motorrad Innovation Day 2011, BMW highlighted its latest concept electric-drive E-Scooter. BMW Motorrad earlier developed an electric study vehicle, the C1-E, as a contribution to the European safety project eSUM. Unlike existing maxi scooters with combustion engines, the concept vehicle does not have a main frame.

A GM analysis of vehicle data collected from first generation found that Volt vehicles were driven more than half a billion miles in North America from October 2013 through September 2014, and that 74% of the miles were all-electric. The powerflow was capable of operating at high vehicle speeds both as an EV and with engine on.
