The German government announced on Tuesday its new plan of financial incentives for electric vehicle purchases. Drivers will no longer receive the same amounts they did previously for purchasing electric cars, as Germany announced it would reduce the amount of money it gives consumers for switching to sustainable powertrains.

A limit was imposed on emissions from the power plants, and utilities were allowed to buy and sell permits to comply. If they don’t have enough allowances to cover their emissions they must purchase more or face a penalty. If they find they have a surplus they can sell the extra allowances to other power generators who may need them.
