Four major US corporations and two utility companies took delivery of the Smith Newton, the largest road-going electric truck in North America. Coca-Cola, Staples, Frito-Lay, AT&T, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) are the first Newton customers in the USA.

A battery powered, all electric utility truck with an aerial device has been produced by Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation in association with Altec Industries Inc. It comes with a 120kW induction motor and a lithium-ion battery pack capable of a range in excess of 100 miles and a payload up to 16,280lbs.

Smith Electric Vehicles US delivered the first electric Newton trucks—the largest commercially available battery-electric-powered truck—to four Fortune 500 companies and two utility companies in an event hosted at the Capitol Reflecting Pool on the National Mall in Washington DC.
