The proprietary technology platform is derived from fusion research, and is a foundational step toward mass onboarding of electric vehicles and deployment of intermittent renewable energy as dispatchable power.

The City of Indianapolis will upgrade 425 non-police-pursuit sedans in its muncipal fleet to plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles by early 2016, cut the size of the fleet by 100 vehicles, and save $8.7 million over ten years. The Indy fleet would be the largest municipal fleet of electrified vehicles in the US.

The battery-electric Nissan Leaf followed with 984 units, a decrease from Sep 2011, but its best performance since then. The Volt extended range electric vehicle has sold 16,348 units Jan-Sep 2012, up 319.7% Ford reported 59 units of the battery-electric Focus sold in September. Overall, total Nissan sales were down 1.1%

Today, Ford sells approximately 35,000 electrified vehicles a year, led by the Fusion Hybrid and Escape Hybrid. The new Ford C-MAX Hybrid is targeted to deliver better fuel economy than Fusion Hybrid and is the first of two new Ford Hybrids to use lithium-ion battery technology.
