General Motors has begun manufacturing the electric motor for the Spark EV at its Baltimore Operations plant in White Marsh, Md. The new installations bring GM closer to reaching its goal to increase renewable energy use globally to 125 MW by 2020. The electric motor and drive unit for the Chevrolet Spark EV are being manufactured in Maryland under a rooftop solar array in a newly LEED-certified building. The greening of the General Motors Baltimore Operations complex included the addition of 580 kilowatts of solar to the roof of its e-Motor building.
