The electric motor and drive unit for the Chevrolet Spark EV are being manufactured in Maryland under a rooftop solar array in a newly LEED-certified building. The greening of the General Motors Baltimore Operations complex included the addition of 580 kilowatts of solar to the roof of its e-Motor building.

Maven is now offering its first all-electric fleet of cars for use in the gig economy; 20 Chevrolet Bolt EVs are available for freelance drivers in Austin, Texas to earn money on their own schedules. Lyft and General Motors are expanding their Express Drive short-term vehicle access program ( earlier post ) to California and Colorado, including the new 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV ( earlier post ). and Baltimore. Express Drive will also launch operations in Denver by the fall of 2016.

The HybriDrive series hybrid electric system consists of a diesel-powered generator, an electric motor, and an energy storage system. Seattle and Houston are taking delivery of HybriDrive-powered buses built by Daimler as will Baltimore City, Md., and suburban Chicago by the end of 2011.

The ArvinMeritor hybrid has both mechanical and electrical propulsion systems (dual mode), which use the electric motor drive primarily for periods of high demand under low-speed, high-load operating conditions, such as accelerating from a stop. This technology could help Wal-Mart increase its fleet efficiency by up to 25%.
