Porsche 914 EV Conversion

Since I live in Portland, Oregon, I went to a meeting with the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association and found out about several companies that provided drop-in electric conversion kits for existing cars. I'm currently working with Craig Loughlin out at Camp914 to purchase a 1976 Porsche 914 for the conversion.

Electro Auto e-mailed me again today to say that the battery racks and boxes have shipped and should arrive on Tuesday! If Electro Auto ships the battery cable along with the boxes then I can return the pre-built cables. The instructions for the AC kit tell you to slide the motor speed control box through the two-inch hole that was cut in the wall between the engine compartment and the rear luggage compartment. Electro Auto forgot to include the post terminals for the most-positive and most-negative connections in the kit.

I called around to several Porsche repair shops and finally found Dan Hall's Auto Machine. Apparently Dan is the only guy in the Portland area that has a flywheel balancer with a small enough mandrill to fit the 914 flywheel hole (1/2 inch or so). Stay tuned.

And there is Robb Protheroe's offer to integrate the new Li-ion battery pack with the PluginSupply kit and system, once shipped by DPS to Petaluma, CA. Conferring with Amtrak on "Spirit's" Auto Train Return from Sanford, Florida. Note: the Green Train leave on its six week venture from Portland and is en route to DC.
