The ChangAn CA18 FlexDI Concept Engine shown at Auto China 2008. Ltd, China’s fourth largest automotive manufacturer, have entered into a joint development contract for a concept engine. If the program is successful, Changan plans to take the FlexDI concept engine to mass production in a Changan vehicle.

HCCI is a combustion regime in which well-mixed fuel, exhaust gas and air are compressed to the point of auto-ignition. Unlike a spark ignition gas engine or diesel engine, HCCI produces a low-temperature, flameless release of energy throughout the entire combustion chamber.
