Toyota will apply its bipolar nickel-metal hydride batteries used by Aqua and Crown hybrid vehicles to its battery electric vehicles (BEV). Toyota has steep BEV goals for the next few years as it adapts to an ever-changing auto industry. The Japanese automaker plans to sell 1.5 million BEV units by 2026.

This is sorely needed, and no one else in the auto industry has anything like it. In the span of 15 years, the industry has gone from lead-acid to nickel-metal-hydride to the lithium-ion batteries used in Ford C-MAX and Ford Fusion hybrids on the road today.
