GM will use the technology to collect low-level waste heat and use it in important ways, allowing their EVs to accelerate faster, charge faster, and go further. An automotive-grade heat pump absorbs and recoups waste heat in the vehicle system. But that’s a bit wasteful, and it’s not what electric cars are all about.

Audi announces A3 e-tron battery electric vehicle pilot program in US

Audi introduced the battery-electric Audi A3 e-tron US pilot program at TED2012 in Long Beach, California. This marks Audi’s first foray into the rapidly developing US electric vehicle landscape. Water flows around the 30 modules which constitute this battery; the waste heat is utilized to heat the vehicle’s interior.

For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. So much more convenient than having to take time out of my day and go out of my way (wasting more energy) to get a charge elsewhere or do battery swaps. my idea is that it would work the way propane tanks work now.
