Global Bioenergies and Audi have signed a new collaboration agreement earlier post ) to further broaden the feedstock flexibility of Global Bioenergies’ bio-isobutene process, which uses fermentation of sugars. Global Bioenergies will use its demo plant, presently under construction on the site of the Leuna refinery, to produce these batches.

In 2014, Global Bioenergies signed a collaboration agreement with Audi on the development of bio-isooctane—a high-performance drop-in biofuel for gasoline engines—derived from bio-isobutene. These compounds are associated with large markets: Isooctane is the gold standard for gasoline engines, and corresponds to unleaded 100 when used neat.
