The Audi Q8 e-tron — a technology update (and model name deconfliction) of the successful original Audi e-tron — started initial registrations in Germany with 21 units in December. Audi rounded out the top three spots. The remaining ranks are more closely distributed, with MG and Audi in 2nd and 3rd spots. The auto industry body, the SMMT, is forecasting the auto market to be one of the few prospective growth stories of the coming year.

Further back, the Audi Q4 e-tron saw its best monthly performance in a couple of years, with 387 units, taking 8th spot. Outlook Auto industry body Mobility Sweden is still concerned about weakening order books for BEVs, after incentives were cut last November. 4 in third, at 837 units.

Some wanted to convert a Maruti Dzire, some an Audi A4, some an Hyundai i20, and some a Tata Nano. The costs of such a conversion will usually be based on your range requirements. Usually, for a 150+ km range car, the cost is around 5-6 lakhs. So if you have an Audi A4 or Hyundai i20 or a Tata Nano, you are out of luck.

To date, only the Porsche Taycan and its platform twin the Audi e-tron GT have 800-volt batteries—though Tesla’s 400-volt batteries can briefly charge at up to 250 kW. A carmaker to watch.

Many in the auto industry are warning that realistic BEV range numbers under varying conditions need to be widely published , else risk creating a backlash against EVs in general. How long GM will be able to keep that price in the face of battery cost increases and inflationary pressure, is anyone’s guess.
