Ford - Along with its Lincoln and Mercury brands, Ford sales totalled 129,898, representing a 28.8 Combined sales of all hybrid models, which included the new Fusion and Milan hybrids, totalled 2,299 - up 21 per cent compared to sales a year ago. Just 222 Altima Hybrids were sold during the month.

Overall, reported sales of hybrids dropped 45.5 per cent year-on-year to 21,735 even though it incorporated a full month’s sales for new vehicles such as the Honda Insight, as well as the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan Hybrids. Meanwhile, the Honda Civic Hybrid sold 3,361 units, down 22.3 per cent to 19 units.

Ford: Retaining the number two position in the US market, Ford (along with its brands Lincoln and Mercury) reported sales of 155,954 - down 24.3 The new Honda Insight did help to boost sales however - 2,780 models were sold meaning hybrid sales of Honda cars increased by 3.5 per cent compared to the previous year.

Nissan: Until recently Nissan’s only contribution to the green car explosion was the Altima Hybrid, produced in collaboration with Toyota. In 2005, it launched the Ford Escape Hybrid – the first hybrid electric SUV. The company has enjoyed a 73 per cent increase in hybrid sales this year (see article ).
