In the Memorandum, the President specifically directs that by 31 December 2015, all new light-duty vehicles leased or purchased by agencies must be alternative fueled vehicles, such as hybrid or electric, compressed natural gas, or biofuel. The New York Police Department (NYPD) has deployed 40 Nissan Altima Hybrids as the first alternative fuel vehicles to be used as marked and unmarked patrol cars in the Police Department’s fleet. The Nissan Altima Hybrids account for 40 of more than 100 total hybrid vehicles the Department is expected to deploy this year.
