Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will test two hybrid systems—one developed by ArvinMeritor and one developed by Eaton and Peterbilt—in Class 8 trucks. The company also will test three different alternative fuels—Reclaimed Grease Fuel; B20 biodiesel; and liquefied natural gas—in its heavy-duty trucks.

In two packages of awards, the California Energy Commission approved more than $44 million to expand the hydrogen fueling infrastructure and increase the number of alter alternative fuel vehicles on the road in the state. If there was ever a car on the road fitting the bill as future, it is the 2024 Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). This is impressive as there are only 55 operating hydrogen fuel stations in the state and the availability of hydrogen is sometimes spotty. No plugging in to an electrical outlet.
