Oregon Governor Kitzhaber recently announced a new initiative to maximize the economic development potential of clean fuels in Oregon, directing the Department of Environmental Quality to move forward with full implementation of Oregon’s Clean Fuels Program and announcing a new Clean Fuels Work Advisory Committee.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown, who assumed office in February after the resignation of former Governor John Kitzhaber, has signed into law Oregon’s Clean Fuels legislation ( SB 324 ). The bill removes the 31 December 2015 sunset on the statutes requiring the adoption of clean fuel standards. Earlier post.)

The study presents eight scenarios for low-carbon fuel supply, including varying amounts of electricity, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, next generation cellulosic biofuel, and natural gas.

The California LCFS regulation, which went in to effect on 15 April 2010, targets a reduction of the carbon intensity (CI), on a full-fuel lifecycle basis, of transportation fuels (measured in gCO 2 e/MJ) used in California by an average of 10% by the year 2020.

The Governors of California, Oregon and Washington and the Premier of British Columbia signed a regional agreement strategically to align policies to reduce greenhouse gases and promote clean energy. Oregon will build on existing programs to set a price on carbon emissions.
