It’s the car I drove this year that I most likely can see myself buying for, uh, myself. 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6: Between a brief drive in New Mexico and a longer loan, I found myself enjoying this EV. Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At these prices, people are buying the "environmental feature" -- they want to be among the first owners of the worlds cleanest extended-range vehicles. They are early adopters, buying "Version 1.0"

The goal of using taxpayer dollars to increase sales of electric vehicles should serve two primary purposes: 1) To reduce the cost differential between comparable EV and ICE vehicles to make EVs more attractive and more affordable to more people. Of these five, the Toyota Prius Prime is the only one that sells in any significant volume.
