The engine works in conjunction with an electric motor and a rechargeable 17.8 kilowatt-hour battery.

The former just introduced the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, while the latter has a limited edition Polestar 1 PHEV and the more affordable Polestar 2 that we’ve tested and came away very impressed.

For more affordable EVs, the Volvo brand has big plans to expand its lineup, and already offers the XC40 Recharge crossover. Mercedes-Benz is rolling out its EQ models and that brand has huge luxury equity.
