The section held a first-of-its-kind workshop in January at the University of Technology in Kingston. Students and members met with IEEE leaders, government officials, university professors, and industry executives. Students from several local schools and universities participated in the event.

Honda Research Institute (HRI), a Honda R&D subsidiary, and Boston University have agreed to begin joint research in the area of data security and privacy for artificial intelligence (AI) research. In order to enable AI to cooperate with people, personal information about the users must be collected and analyzed. Honda noted.

She went on to form her own groups and lead diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the universities she worked for in London and Sydney. She joined City, University of London , as a research fellow working on computational photonics. Agrawal found solace in advocacy and support organizations in London after moving there in 2005.

CARB chose the site near the University of California, Riverside, in March 2016 and completed environmental studies in June 2017. In addition, there will be a formal reception area, media center, and a 250-person auditorium with an adjacent conference room for overflow for Board meetings, workshops or other events.

John McCarthy , then a young professor at Dartmouth, had coined the term "artificial intelligence" when he wrote his proposal for the workshop, which he said would explore the hypothesis that "every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it.".
