SGL Carbon produces prototypes of fully integrated composite battery enclosures for NIO; battery swapping

In collaboration with SGL Carbon, Chinese automotive manufacturer NIO has developed prototypes for battery enclosures made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for its NIO high performance electric vehicles. Besides producing the bottom and cover plate, the SGL site in Ried, Austria, also assembled the individual components.

EEA: no improvements on average CO2 emissions from new cars registered in 2017 in Europe

Efforts to improve the fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the European Union (EU) stalled in 2017 compared to 2016, according to provisional data published today by the European Environment Agency (EEA). While past years have seen steady declines, new passenger cars registered in 2017 emitted on average 0.4 g/km last year to 118.5g/km.

Roskill: graphite prices could push higher on tightening markets for batteries & electrodes

Synthetic graphite electrode prices rose nine-fold through the first three quarters of 2017, increasing from US$1,748/t in January 2017 to a high of US$16,309/t in September, according to Roskill Information Services. Scrap steel was banned from sale to such furnaces in early 2017, becoming available for use in EAFs.
